Foot of Taravel street off of the Great Highway. Use sand crabs if bait fishing. 3 to 4 oz hair razors in white or red with a pork rind tail , crocodiles, and large Kastmasters lures can be effective if throwing lures. If bait fishing ,try to place your bait just past the breakwater, don’t need to cast that far out. Pay attention to the tidal movement and the undertow currents. NEVER turn your back to the sea! Be safe! Gus’s bait and tackle on Balboa St. sells nice sand crab shovels which really help gathering them. Look for little bubbles emanating from the sand, stick your shovel there and u will find the crabs! Run your hook through the back of the head and bury it in the under belly of the crab. Hip boots or chest waders are highly recommended.
