Kind of a shame

A buddy of mine had this timber rattler cross the road in front of his house, a unique colored black phase. He’s got grandkids that they babysit quite often and felt the need to eradicate it lest it hang around the homestead and cause trouble. It was a pretty good sized one and kind of a shame he felt the need to kill it but I may have done the same given the circumstances.

It shoulda been skinned, coated, and deep-fried. Thrn it woulda served a good purpose.

Agree. Beautiful snake. Too bad it was too close to home. But y'all are right. Given the circumstances I would probly done the same thing if I felt it was too close to home.

Yeah, you Texas boys are full of them but around here I don’t see but one or two each year unless checking out a denning area in spring. Would loved to have backed a bow with that skin.

Yeah Steve, it was a beautifully patterned black phase. I’ve seen one other black phase but it’s colors were not nearly as brilliant as this one. I believe it may have recently molted.

Would have done the same. Out in the woods is one thing but around the house, no brainer.

I put a rattler down a few ago. It had one of my granddaughters, 5 years old at the time, cornered in the backyard. She was pretty calm about it. You can’t take the risk, when there’s kids around…🐟on

They taste like chicken you know.

But then they say that about anything they haven't eaten.

That would have looked real good on a guitar strap. I have one - it’s beautiful…

I agree with Plum Brad. Out in the woods is there home. Around the house and kids or animals isn’t gonna cut it. Definitely had to go

If y’all really want some good attention turn a big one into a necktie. That’ll make u a few dollars. Thank me later. I’ve seen them on ties, billfolds (wallets), belts, pistol holsters, and earrings.
