I'm driving to the lake now and crossing Patuxant river on the bridge on route 29 north. I'm wondering what are the legal rules for pulling over on the sides of roads to park? I'd like to try to get down there because the bridge is in a wider section of the river. I'm not even sure I can GET down there to reach the water but don't wanna get a ticket.
On a side note, I went to PetSmart and saw this little pond water so I pulled over to check it out. Lots n lots of frogs I hear jumping into the water lots of minnows (or tadpoles) and lots of snails stick to the side of the bank waters. What ya think the odds there's any fish here? It's prob from some sort of construction. It's in a ditch between townhouses.
Not sure about parking laws where you are but my son and I fish several small drainage ponds by Home Depot. Etc and most contain bass. He caught a 4 pounder in a small pond behind our BJs. As long as the pond maintains a level year long I believe it can hold fish.

I'm always curious how they got there if a pond isn't actively stocked.

Birds. Fish eggs stick to their legs and feathers.

Yeah, I've heard that. I would think in most cases like that the odds would be stacked against them surviving.

Probably why they lay hundreds, some even thousands of eggs. Survival of the species. Many get eaten, others just don’t grow. Mother Nature is an awesome thing.

Where do the fish come from,? Arent these just run-off ditches? I'm def gonna try it. Our note fishing event got rained out tonight, more rain tomorrow man.
Yea most are retention ponds required for developments and strip malls or mega stores to capture their own water. As was stated before waterfowl carry the eggs from pond to pond. It’s almost like someone planned it that way! If the ponds remain full all year they start to create an environment where fish and other species can thrive. I’ve seen some large fish come out of these ponds on fishbrqin and make a habit to fish some that are convenient whenever I vacation. Also ponds on golf courses can have good bass populations, typically you need permission unless you go at night.😁Never know what they’ll hold until you try!

Does not matter if there is fish there. You can take some for bait where you KNOW the fish are.

I just found a nice golf course pond on my way to Centennial. Saw some kid fishing down there and stopped, Caught 2 small bass there which is better than centennial where I lost yet again 2 more lures, making Grand total 8 this month 😭
I'm pretty burned out there and I just started fishing it. No luck and snags every time
Need to find something new before long
Someone told me they this pond is on Onerodonereel too an I'm watching it now. lol
I didn't yet get anything from that drainage pond though but I wasn't there long
If you walk down to the reservoir (Patuxent River/Rocky Gorge)after parking on 29, the WSSC police may come down and ticket you.
Never eat anything from retention ponds or small ditches where who know what the runoff was.

Ohh so that's rocky gorge? I didn't realize it until I just looked at the map. So will they ticket me because I didn't pay the WSSC fish fee or because I parked? I drop back across and it looked very wooded, didn't look like it was easy to get down and I didn't see anyone else parking. I thought it would be lower because of the drainage but it looked pretty deep to me. How do you go about legally getting down there to shore fish that river? I want a bigger section like that and not a tiny stream.

Ha my dad just said the same. I would just throw them all back yea. Never know what's in there.

I would suggest a call to the police department that has jurisdiction there, if unknown call state police, and ask them. Non emergency number of course.
