Very surprised no one has mentioned fishing low pressure systems??? Surfing fishing anyone?π
Low pressure is one thing - fishing a hurricane with attendant tidal surges - not for me, thank you!
I live inSaint Augustine and the bass fishing is great today at our bigger lakes!! Going back out tomorrow to try lake George!!
If you want to fish the hurricane wait till it's over and then go fish the piers. Everything is up shallow due to the bait fish being pushed up shallow.
What's your take on rivers and tributaries after a hurricane? Now that I have a kayak and if I still have a house afterwards I was wondering if it will be a waste of time or not.

plumbob If you can, and your not scared fish ahead of the storm just leave before it get too rough. I love to fish during storms from shore or a little larger boat than I got caught out in once. My most successfu l trips have been ahead of and during storms. Also the scariest time in my fishing life was out on a bay with a buddy and a boat and cooler full of fish. We had Hauled my buddy's aluminum jon boat in the trunk of my ford falcon sedan. Never had much luck after a storm. Question full, or new moon, which is better?
Never had large quantities of fish on moon lit nights. Have catches but not like cloudy nights. I always thought they ate more at night when the moon provided light.

Anyone here on the west coast of Florida(Sarasota)?
I'm wondering what the fishing will be like right now. Its rainy, but we won't see Dorian.
I'm also interested in the moon question, full or new which is better.
Also, if anyone knows of a good spot by a bridge or a secret tucked away spot, from shore. Thanks! Fun groupππ£

I've had several guide in my family some blood kin and some, in-law they all have the same Ideas about that. They all prefer from 2 days before till 2 days after the new moon. One of those was a guide in Cedar Key and another was a guide on the Indian river and the Big Cypress, out of Vero Beach. And my brother-in-law on the New River and Greenbrier river at Hinton, WV. Your higher and lower tides occur around the New moon causing higher current more salt fish. I fish dark (black) Lures at night, Bottom on lit nights and all levels on the new moon period. on those nights it's not uncommon to get hit from owls on a jitter bug. I actually caught one once, It was a bloody affair, mostly my own.
Darker baits do work better at night would not think so but they do.

Dennisjj, Take a small Black object (bait) and a light colored bait and look at the night sky and see which one you can see best. It will be the black one
You are correct gary that's why i say darker baits work better in darker water.
