The progressive rock band ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) aptly named one of their big hit songs with what I awoke to this morning as the sun rose above the horizon...Mr. Blue Sky! Oweee...what a way to start the day! So calm and quiet that you could hear the twinkle of the water surface.
A morning troll with the kayak was in order, so off I went to prowl over some brand new waters in Lake Michigan that I have not yet covered this season.
Managed to catch a single northern pike, 3 beautifully proportioned smallmouth bass and one small yellow perch.
We have plans to baby sit the grand girls this afternoon at a beach bonfire along with a fire roasted bratwurst potluck so I needed to cut the morning short and get back home to help prep some food items.
Have a terrific weekend everybody!!!
Ready...set...GO!!!
I was pretty sure from the pulse and length of the head and body shakes on this guy that a northern pike was at the other end of the line! Thirty five inches of aggression....
No way was I going to release this rascal "boatside". He had a case of lockjaw when I tried using my jaw gripper, so we took a little trip to a nearby shoreline beach studio for a photo shoot!
Good morning Mr. Smallie...glad you could drop by. One of three bass this morning...coming in at 16, 17 and 18 inches respectively. All struck the same Berkley jointed crankbait in a natural minnow color.
Are we finished yet? Gee whiz...I've got to get back to my underwater buddies at some point!

Nice pics.
Thank you ghaynes1! Glad you enjoyed them! Finally was able to get my "submersable" camera back up and running for the trip today. It is a cheap little Fuji unit that is supposed to be waterproof.... but upon getting back home it seems to be acting up again...so it is resting in a bowl of rice at the moment!
At least the photos I took ended up on the memory card so I could retrieve them!

Thank you Jarheadfishnfool! It was a very pleasant morning paddle....and of course fishing too! We are looking forward to the beach party. I plan to bring my snorkeling gear in case I have extra time to swim...but for the most part I'll be watching the little gals and playing near the waters edge building sand castles!

Thank you Bassattacker! Glad you enjoyed the post! I marked a ton of fish out there today, and ran tackle thru them but not a lot of action. My guess is that they were yellow perch because they were in small groups...but sort of separated too.

Thank you flytier. I have a fairly old (15 years) Fuji camera that says it can be used underwater...but whenever I do, it seems like water gets into the chamber so it only works for a short while! Glad I managed to capture a handful of shots early in the paddle...because it was "toast" when I tried to take any additional ones later on!
The wrist strap is only about 6 inches long, so it is a challenge to shoot anything when seated in the kayak. The bass photo was taken left handed, and I could barely touch the shutter button! The pike was easy, because I paddled back to shore and we were buddies for a brief time during the photo opportunities there!
For above water photos I have a little old Sony hand held from around the mid 90's era. It fits nicely into one of the pockets on my PFD.
Nice fish and awesome photos. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you NJ219! I had the place to myself for a brief little while and then some other boats started to hone in on the area so we all had a little fishing party going on! I heard at least one other guy let out a "hooty who" with a "fish on" while I was paddling by where they were casting and slowly moving via a trolling motor.
This is big water, so there was plenty of room for everybody!

Thank you Ridleyblake! I'm glad a few of the underwater ones turned out. It was the perfect kind of morning to try and get some. Since you are not looking thru the viewfinder, it is a guessing game about where to point (one handed) and then try to also reach the shutter button! I'm pretty old school when it comes to my gear...nothing fancy!
