What a great adventure for a couple days camping and fishing at Holter lake. Had some sun, fun and wind, rain and lightning. Even got chased off the lake one evening, not so much fun, lol. Fishing not super hot but managed to find some.
Started out bottom bouncing, got one bite but the trout came off as it cleared the surface. I was looking for perch too and walleye. Decided to slow down and throw jigs and other baits. I was working the weed lines closer to shore in shallow water.
Using bass tactics that I’ve learned from many of you on here, starting throwing a weightless crawdad and immediately got bites. I’m sure they were perch but too small for the bait.
Marked that spot and went on exploring more of the lake. Came to a nice cove that’s the mouth of a tributary stream, like fishing a pond. Tried jigs etc even resorted to a slip bobber with night crawlers. Got a fat Missouri River rainbow on the first cast with that.
Then I saw a rocky bank that drops off and threw the crawdad there and immediately got bit! I can’t believe the perch eating these baits.. (see photos) nailed three in a row before they gave up.
Picked up a couple walleye too on the slip bobber. It was a good trip.

Sounds like a fun trip despite the weather Tim. Glad you caught the nice Bow, and a bunch of fun fish too. You never know who will bite on what. My weirdest was probably a Kokanee in shallow water on a Chatterbait. Thanks for the pictures buddy.
