Has anyone fished Lake Norman in NC?
Saw a fishing program for bass there. It looks great but 700 miles from me.

Lake Norman is a beautiful lake. Many homes and a lot of boat traffic. I would use a guide if you really wanted a good trip. There is a good population of bass and stripers.

Many times. I live in 45 minutes away. It can be a hard lake to fish.

My son lived on the southern tip of the lake. We could see bass swimming around from a walkway around his complex. He caught many nice fish right from the dock behind his building.
my parents had a place there from the mid 70's to about 1999. they bought at around 70,000 and sold for over 200,000. i used to go almost every weekend and weeks in the summer as my parents never went. the lake is huge and it's full of numerous fishes. a long time ago the bass were mostly small due to the lack of nutrients as the water was so clean. now, after the construction boom and urbanization. the bass are bigger, although there aren't any more of the big stripers. i hear there are nice hybrids, though. i haven't been down since i visited a friend who lives on the lake around 15 years ago and it had changed a lot already. the place has it all for fishing though, from casting at piers to jigging deep structure.
I live on the lake. It is normally a great fishing water but this year it has not been good. Water temp for the last three months has been near 90 degrees and all of the bait fish and bass have gone deep for cooler water. Hybrid stripers are still good at the north end of the lake. When the water cools below 80 degrees for a week, the spotted bass fishing should get better. Its a very big lake and you need to plan you fishing. Big catfish are still very active, 20 pound blues are not scarce.

Thank you for your info. May change our mind and go to Kentucky-Barkley Lakes instead. Lot of water there also and only about 250 miles instead of 700.
yeah, it's not worth a 700 mile drive.

Dont go!!! Its not worth 10-12 hour drive, I live 2 hours away, and dont go there. Gaston, Buggs Island, Kerr, and Falls Lakes, all are much better places to go with the possibility of a 10 pound plus bass. Tennessee lakes are also better, Chickamauga has Florida strain bass there. Good luck DEE JAY
