Well the water level was normal, but the current was running.73°water temperature at the ramp @6:45am. As soon as the Sun got over the trees it went up around 76°. The water was the color of my coffee (with cream &sugar). I only ran about 1.25 miles north towards the Shepawg dam and the current was running 1.8-2.0 mph, still 2 miles from the dam. I started trying to fish there and drifted south. Even with my winged helpers, nothing but nibblers, and 2 decent bites that immediately broke off in rocks and wood. I was moving past the cover too fast and couldn't get them out. Batting zero, until I got down to JMK's house, where I caught the first Smallmouth, and the only decent one at that. I continued about 3/4of a mile past the ramp and only managed 2 dink Smallmouth, and 1small Rocky.
None of my bright colors were working at all, nor was a crankbait, or a popper. I missed 2 on a Paca Craw, and caught the 4 on a June Bug Dinger. Between the current and muddy water, you basically had to hit them in the head with the bait so they could find it. Better than a Skunk, but again, not by much.
The color of my coffee.
1.8-2.1 mph where I stopped, it's narrower and faster up closer to the dam.
As soon as I shut the motor off, I was moving back downstream.
Even my buddy couldn't help me find any.
Finally! The only decent fish.
I believe that's JMK's sun porch at the very top of the hill, and that's where I caught the only decent fish.

Nice fish, pics and info. Brown water-flowing above normal speed, that makes it hard to catch fish, but you pulled a few fish out.

Good to see you out fishing Fred! And some action is better than none! Keep after them buddy! Good and be safe!!
Thanks Tracker. Hindsight tells me I probably should have hit a regular lake instead of the river lakes. They got 7 inches of rain the other day, north of the lakes, and it's still flooded up there. Still better than working though.

Great post Fred. That description of your coffee dead on. Good to see you didn't get skunked also. Is that current flow or rain run off? Sure is moving fast

Thanks Matt. Definitely better than the Skunk. I think I'll let Zoar and Lilly settle down for a couple weeks. Hopefully no more flooding above them.

Thanks Gordon. The lakes are part of the Housatonic River, so there's always some flow from one to the next. Normally in the summer it's only about 0.5 mph, but with the torrential rain they got north of the lakes, the river was flooded out. They had to open all 3 dams to let the excess head out to Long Island Sound, so that the lake shores didn't get flooded. It was very tough to fish, but at least NO skunks.
Nice descriptions Fred, have you tried dark lures in the murky water?

Thanks John. Yes I did. I threw a dark crankbait, a black Hula popper, and a black Frog in the reeds . I threw a Green Pumpkin, Black, and Junebug worm. The Junebug was the only real producer. Normally the water there has a little bit of green (algae) tint, but it was opaque today, plus all the weeds and debris fouling hooks, wasn't helpful either.

Pretty much what you expected but like most of us, you don’t know unless you try. No skunk, not working and some action. Still a good day. 👍

Thanks Four. The only thing I wasn't expecting was the mud in the water. I figured it would have settled out when it passed through Lilly, which is almost 13 miles long. It definitely could have been worse.

Thanks Ryan. I've gotta start traveling around a little more, maybe run up to Mashapaug next trip, in the Northeast corner of the state.
