Crushing barbs

I’ve heard of people who crush the barb on the hook to make hook removal easier. I’m wondering if I will lose fish by doing that or if it really is a good idea to crush the barb. Note: I am not putting bait on the hook and the barbs that I’m thinking of crushing are the hooks on my lures.

OK. Think catch and release. The whole point of a barbless hook is to make it easier to release the fish without causing any further damage. Does it make it harder to bring the fish to net? Sure. But not a lot. Just keep pressure on the fish, keep your line tight and you should have no problem. But if you're going to keep the fish, what's the point?

If your killing fish or ripping the faces off you should consider it.
They say when they get off the hook it is a perfect release

Where I live on some waters a barbless hook is mandatory and a penalty can be charged to you.

Since I release all my fish, I always fish barbless. Do I lose some fish that a barb would have held on to? Sure, but they are usually smaller fish and I was going to release them anyway. The satisfaction of fooling the fish, feeling it tug on my line and then it self-releasing to fight on another day is great. I know of one fish I caught three times in one season. That's what I call successful recycling.

When I am fishing waters where there is big and small trouts, I use barbless hooks. If I hook any small ones, it is easy to release them and let them grow and replenish the fishery.
