Hi indibill54, I pretty new to this forum myself. Bunch of nice guys so far. I don't fly fish. Looks like way too much work for me. All you have to do is ask a question & you'll get some good answers. Welcome & keep a tight line.

Hey Indibill54 and bottomcoon - I've only been on here for about a week. seems to be a pretty friendly and useful forum. I do fly fish (not very well but I do) and I have fished for all my 72 years and all over the world for all kinds of fish. Now I mostly fish for trout. I am seriously considering learning a couple of new techniques, Tenkara and mono fly fishing. I you're interested we can talk about it, or if you want to talk trout I'm pretty knowledgable in that regard. Welcome!

Spiritof74 you're talking Greek to me. I don't fly fish but I tried it once, for a few minutes. I have caught a fair amount of stocked rainbows & a few natives. My trout rig is a 7ft med action spinning rod & reel loaded with mostly 4 lb mono. Power bait, red eggs & spinnerbaits are my baits. Remember, I'm an Okie & my middle name is Earl. Hope your new technique's work out great.

Hey bottomcoon, I'm a Hoosier and my middle name is Russell, but please don't hold that against me. Tenkara is sorta like fishing with flies but only with a cane pole and no reel. If you think about it, fly fishing with fly rod and reel is kinda like fishing with no reel, cause all the reel does is hold the line, you don't normally fight the fish with it, you let the rod do that. Now a mono rig is using a monofilament line on a fly rod and replacing the fly line with monofilament. I don't know about you, but when started out fishing, about 65 years ago or so, I first learned to love to fish with a cane pole. So, the more things change the more they stay the same. I'm reverting to my 6 year old self. Now, was that Greek? Hell, let's go catch some fish. You bring your spinning rig, Indibill54 can bring his fly rod, I'll bring my cane pole and we'll see who catches the most.

I know what it's like when I first started with a cane pole and that got me fishing and I loved it ever since. Though the years I fished with a spincast and I wanted to try flyfishing a couple of years ago and I loved it too. So now it's what I feel like doing that day. I'm still learning , but now I've got plenty of time to do it. I appreciate you talking to me. You take care and Peace be with you all.

Hello Indibill54! I'm like Spiritof27 & I'm from Indiana. I don't technically fly fish, but I do a variation of it with my spin cast & 7'6" medium action with a very fast tip. It's an elite Ugly Stick.
