Why not ask your buddies? Surely they would be willing to help you out a little At least tell you what you'll be fishing for.

I would ask my buddies if they have any extra equipment that you could use. I know if I asked a buddy that I knew never fished before, to go fishing with me I would would let him use everything that he needed. The only thing he would have to buy would be a lisc. Don't try to BS them that you know something fishing, they will see right through you. Welcome to the Forum!

This is great; all are giving good advice. I’ll chime in by saying that if I were [and I have on numerous occasions] asked an elder or a youngster to go fish w/ me; I’m more than prepared to share tackle and/or supply the whole outfit, making doubly certain I had everything possibly needed. Surely those who asked you to go would be equally willing to do the same. Actually, to me, half of the fun of fishing is getting ready, and letting the anticipation build. If I can share the sifting thru lures, selecting rods, checking drags, etc with whomever is accompanying me, then all the better. Ask you buddies. Have a grand time of it.

Ask your friends. They will know and there's no reflection on you for asking, in fact it shows intelligence. Mike

Asking for advice is never a bad thing; remember, there are no stupid questions, just stupid mistakes ! If you're inexperienced, uninformed or uncertain, always let someone show/explain wharever it is you need to know !

As said above the stupid question is the one that goes unasked.
If you have friends that are wanting you to go, they will most certainly be the ones to ask. I’d bet on them offering advice and gear. If you have fun, tell them you’d like to get your own gear. They will surely help and maybe find you some bargains.
Good luck and most importantly, have fun.

All good advice, part of the fun of fishing is teaching and making sure your student has the right gear and teaching the proper presentation to offer. Then watching their face light up after landing their 1st catch. That to me is as grand as catching the fish yourself🎣. So don't be shy ask for help let them know your inexperienced and watch them all fall over themselves to offer what you need. Keep it tight and fish on.
