I used to fish at the outlet from Anderson Reservoir years ago when DFW used to stock trout there. Like everywhere else in San Mateo & Santa Clara Counties, damn tree huggers/activists put a halt to stocking for one reason or another BS excuse (Coyote Creek, Coyote Lake, Stevens Creek Reservoir, Pescadero Creek (Memorial Park), San Gregorio Creek (Portola State Park) to name a few!! Seems like most of the fish go to SoCal!!!! Lake Merced is the closest stocked lake to my home in Redwood City!! Quarry Lakes in Fremont is also close. I would check with the DFW if fishing for anything is allowed in Coyote Creek!! Good luck!!

I use to fish it by the bridge at Metcalf road off to the right of the bridge, I would use plastic worms and I would have a good day of catch and release, use to have nice bass not sure how it is now been away for 3 years, good luck

Lake Merced was in the top five in the nation as far as urban recreational lakes. Now it’s almost nothing. They do stock, but even after a plant fishing is thought.

Had great times fishing Lake Merced growing up. Loved opening day, renting a boat at the old boat house/ restaurant. Caught some nice size trout and usually limited out. So sad how the City and fish & game allowed the lake to go to crap. I’m not sure if they still plant trout in the lake. I walk my dog there regularly and those that I do see fishing are mostly fishing for carp. Park& Rec. spend a fortune on a boat that would cut and remove the tulies that were chocking the shoreline but the tree huggers and bird watchers shut it down. It was once referred to as an urban jewel for big city fishing.

You and me both. During the summers I’d take Muni cross town, sometimes 2-3 times a week. Usually would limit.
I really haven’t seen the lake look better. Wish somebody in Park and Recreation would take it under it wings and get it back to its potential. Fish and Game do plant, but far and few between and yet the fishing is still tough.
A friend of mine said that he sent a proposal or mange the lake, bait shop, boats, the works. No go. Not a word.
The whole situation is sad.

Agree my friend. Great memories. The Dam Company that manages San Pablo dam tried to run the lake awhile back but ran into so many regulations that they gave up! Yeah the trout fishing stinks but the lake is loaded with some big large mouth bass. Used to ride our bikes from the Mission there and fish all day. Love the corner in the North lake and the cove next to the eighteenth hole. Tried to launch my small Coleman crawdad boat there a couple of years ago to try for the bass. Was told that I can’t do that by a park ranger. Really. But they allow St. Ignatius high school to train their rowing team there and do private school rowing competitions in the south lake. Thought it was a public lake supported by my tax dollars!

I interviewed with That Dam Company when they first opened. Was top three, but they wanted someone with more recreational experience.
I’ve heard there were large bass in there. I’ve heard people would bring in live bass and plant them themselves. Not really good, but doesn’t seemed to have hurt the lake. Unless those big bass are feeding on the planted trout.
