Hello,
I’m Arturo from Las Cruces, NM. I started fishing more now with my kids and grandkids and I’m having a blast. I fish all over New Mexico, but mostly Caballo and Percha Dam. This last weekend we went out and it wasn’t that fun because we kept getting hung up and caught up with the many rocks and debris under the water. My kids didn’t have much fun. Does anyone know of any good fishing holes at Caballo or Percha that are good for young beginners? When is a bobber used? And any other advice on sharing my fishing experience with kids that look to me as a master fisherman, which I’m not, that can help us have a fun experience. Thanks and looking forward to the reports.

Hello, br I’m Arturo from Las Cruces, NM. I start... (

Never fished there. For kids I would use worms with a Bobber with about 2 to 3 feet of line. If these lakes are anything like the ones I have fished, they will catch a lot of blue gills. One 8 year old grandson caught about 25 before they took all his worm. Good luck
Arturo, for young kids I would use a bobber and small hook, like a size 12, and a one inch piece of worm. Try young park pond in cruces or alumni pond at NMSU; under and around the bridges for bluegill.
I go to caballo a lot. I’ve got some spots but it’s usually pretty tough fishing. Maybe try catching carp with corn in the shallows by the dam. No bobber. Good luck!
Thank you. I have plans to go to NMSU here soon. Gonna do the bobber.
