Found a vintage Penn Peer # 209 Bait caster at a swap meet today Anybody had any experience(good/bad) with this reel ? On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate it's condition about an 8. Anybody have an idea what its worth? Has new 30 lb test line Original owner is asking $50.00 for it

It's not a "Baitcaster" Bob, but a "Conventional" boat or trolling reel. I have one used for Flounder and Fluke, for my wife. Actually I have (2)109s, (1)209, and (1)309 that were for her, and visiting children (109s) . They're good quality reels, if well maintained. They're not designed to cast like a modern Baitcaster, and have a pretty slow gear ratio. They're excellent for dropdown and trolling from a boat.
You can get a new one from Tackle Direct for $59, and used ones on EBay for $30 or less. These are standard 209m models, not the one with the line counter on it.

I’ve got 209’s on a few of my walleye trolling rods. Old reliables passed down from my grandfather.

I have had a couple of them, no idea where they are now, they work well for vertical jigging and trolling, but that is about it. I wouldn't want to pay anything for one. You can live without it.

As far as Penn reels go, they're indestructible if you take care of them. I have one over 60 years old that I bought new, and it still works perfectly, but the price is a bit high for a common used reel.

$30.00 if it is in decent shape. Have used many 109's, 209's , & line counters. Great trolling, dipsey diver, down rigger setups!

I’ve got two of them and they are great reels for boat rods, jigging, drift fishing for flounder. I’ve had these reels since the 70s so they last a while.

Penns and Mitchell's (made in France) are great reels, easy to work on and do maintenance, and will last and last.

HI ,price of $50.00 twice what it's worth. Lots and lots around for $20-$25.
