Try the Kankakee River down by Momence or Aroma Park. You can fish from shore at either place mostly for catfish if using night crawlers, maybe walleye or northern if using minnows. The river is fast so some heavy weights should be used or your bait will be carried down stream.
I saw you were asking about the lake off Sauk Trail. Not sure what the name of it is called but if you're asking about the body of water by Park Forest, it usually just has carp in it.
Hope this helps in your search.
Thanks for your reply. Lake I'm talking about is in henry county, il near Kewanee.

Hello Mary i do not live in your area but i used google maps put in Monee IL and hit parks .....result was Pine Lake Park just 6:minutes drive from Monee...pictures of park showed a mess of fish caught...then directions and shows how to drive to the park....i use this technique to find parks and forest preserve ponds and small lakes all over the Midwest.Use small hooks and just a fifth piece of nightcrawler for bass and panfish under ..bobber...fixed bobber or better slip bobber to fish various depths.Good hunting and report in HERE on how you did fishing.

Hey Mary, I hunt there in the fall/winter and have fished the lake as well. Don't know if the lake itself has a name, we just call it Johnson Sauk Lake. There are reasonable sized bass, lots of catfish, lots of carp, and fairly light on crappie. There is a lot of shallows, therefor the carp, and it's not a terribly large lake. The park itself is very nice and large. Lots of trails, camping, good roads, a good boat launch, generally good birding/wildlife, and picnic areas. In general a nice place, but crappie? You might look elsewhere. Good Luck!
