Knew that was coming. Thankful that I have a bonus tag. I only keep a couple stripers a year but it's nice to know I can.

Yeah Kandy, the whole Northeast has the same slot limit. They announced it a couple months ago.

to add to this thread. tournament At Harwich. out of the 30+ boats and 150+ stripers only 3 fell in the slot. all at 30 1/2".
biggest fish was 42" 51#
our biggest was 36" 20.23# we caught 22 all CR except for the one slot fish. (we came in 4Th no prizes, however!! at the raffle we one a $100 bracelet and a $2200 premier ticket to the redsox. Game of our choice except a NY Yankee game) It was a great day, calm wind SSE @ 5knts. caught a skate (released) we fished with pink RonZ, deep dive Yozuri, 1oz buckltail jig on wire, and a deceiver fly off leadcore line.

I think as a whole it is good and needed. Their goal is to protect the 2015 class which was largest numbers in 10 years. Regulations are designed to preserve mature males and the biggest, most productive breeding females (those over 40 inches) to protect a broad swath of the breeding population. Average bonus fish in 1996 was 25 pounds. Last year it was 6 pounds. Definitely a problem that needs to be addressed. Sadly I think of offshore wind turbines come to fruition it will be the final blow for East coast stripers.

I'm not so zure about the effects of windmills, but I can tell you for sure that the beach replenishment programs they've done have devastated the marine envuroment.

And commercial fishing? What new regs do they have?

For atripers, they haven't allowed commercial fishing in a long time. . There are lots of others things to be addressed there however.

I don’t think it has been legal to catch striper commercially in NJ for years. They are illegal to buy, sell or trade within the state. I think the biggest threat is party boats. They specifically go out to harvest as many fish as possible. Honestly I find it sickening. I’m far from an expert, but the consensus among most in my area is regulations needed to keep population for future generations. I’ve been fishing stripers since the 80s and have seen changes due to pressure.

Yea, I’m in South Jersey and all beaches below LBI are a monolith, w maybe exception of Brigantine.

Truly hard to believe how much things have changed since I fished out of Highlands and Atlantic Highlands in the late 1960's. I don't remember a limit on fluke or stripers, and blues were about 20 miles out in the acid waters. Sad.
Attending the U. of Maryland, I saw an 83 lb. Striper (apparently illegally taken) in a fish market in Salisbury, MD., where my roommate lived.
I don't miss New Jersey.

From what I can gather menhaden aka bunker or pogies are being rapaciously harvested in Virginia's Chesapeake Bay waters by the Omega 3 company. Legal but detrimental to the striper population there.
Secondly I believe Maryland commercial boats can legally keep stripers starting at 14 inches. I hope I am wrong on that.

Major it's not just Chesapeake. After they wipe out all of the bigger pods of bunker in the bay they go out to open water and scout by plane then run out the factory ships. I've seen them along North Carolina,VA and NJ.

I have been fishing the chesapeake since 1977. The omega 3 plant has decimated the menhadden that used to thrive in the bay. Now we are seeing how this has ruined most of the fishing in the bay with the shortage of menhadden. Politicians in virginia just don't seem to care
