First decent smallmouth I have boated this season in the NYS Canal near NT Botanical Gardens. Been getting lots of rock bass. Overall fishing success is down significantly this year again. The chemicals that the state DEC has been dumping in the canal to kill off invasive weeds has hurt the fishing over the past several years. Still enjoying though getting on the NYS canal waterway and fishing.

Nice Smallie Mishman. Our Smallmouth catch rate is down in several lakes here as well. Our DEEP is requesting survey info from fishermen on those lakes. I don't believe any of them have been chemically treated. Hopefully your catching will improve, good luck and Tight Lines!.

That's a nice bass...but so disturbing to hear about the side effects of treating those weeds. Good luck on the balance of the season and I hope that perhaps you'll be able to find some new and uncharted waters to try?!

Nice catch. I live in Fairport NY and they call the Erie Canal the Barge Canal. It's kinda confusing? Anyway I just bought a Kayak and I have a Pelican Canoe for sale if anyones interested? I'm a solo fisherman and a senior so I just could not handle it on my own. I'm asking $550.00. if anyone is interested. It's a GREAT Canoe but it's just too big for one paddler.
