Wishing everyone a fun & safe holiday weekend. Such a great country (well, half of it as I don’t recognize the other half these days ). Hit the big waters of Flathead this morning… about 15 bass, and another half dozen Northern Pike Minnows by accident. All fish released to play again. Every fish came on drop shot 8 lb fluoro 10 lb braid using 4 in Gulp minnows. For anyone not familiar with this bait, it’s a must go to when the bite is tough. Been fishing it for over 10 years. Its everything all the adds claim. I call it my stupid bait. Cast, a few twitches here and there, and BAM . Fish on ! Tight lines to all
Thank you for the July 4th wishes! Very productive day on the water for you...as usual!!! Nice feature bass in your photo!

Great report JB looks like a really nice size SMB you got there. Never tried the Gulp minnows before, will have to give them a shot in our lakes down here. Was wondering if you ever went out on Flathead. Happy 4th to buddy

It’s practically at full pool at the moment, but I just heard that it will be lowering about 1.5 feet. Shouldn’t impact really much, except for the lake residents at their docks. Flathead Lake is essentially a freshwater ocean, as it’s massive.

What colors do you recommend on the Gulp minnows?

Chartreuse hands down. Fished every color and combination and nothing compares. It’s that bright chartreuse top half with the white bottom half just seems to bring in the curiosity. As they get closer I know they pick up the smell… I’ve watched many many many bass in clear water eat it when nothing will get their attention. Only negative is that it’s a really soft bait, and often becomes a one fish wonder… the saltwater version of their gulp is much stronger. But the softness just adds to the overall effectiveness of this bait. Trust me on this. You will catch fish on it
Thanks JB, do you rig them through the nose?

Yes… I use a smaller #4 drop shot hook. Use a light drop shot weight. As it flutters and slowly spins while sinking will give you half your bites
