Had that with a raccoon taking my bait at night once. LOL Was shore fishing at night and had cut up some perch for cut bait. The one I hadn't cut up yet he took. LOL From them on I made sure they were all in the cooler.

We would have foxes come out on the beach at night while we were striper fishing. God forbid you leave anything lay outside of a lock top cooler.
