As I was taking the fish out of the water, he shot out from under a rock and got him! It really surprised me. I had to hold it up until he let go. I unhooked the fish and threw it back towards him and he ate it! Must have been hungry!

Man if that were the first fish you had ever caught that could turn you off fishing forever. Specially if you're scared of snakes!

All snakes are your friends, if fact, as I was writing this I got a call to relocate a rattle snake, which I did and everyone and everything is find and dandy.
Had that happen to me probably thirty five years ago execpt i had the fish on a stringer pulled them up out of the water a snake had bit the fish i give them to a black man stringer and all.

Sorry flyguy but snakes to me are right up there with spiders. A good one is a dead one. Hope we can agree to disagree.

Wow, I've never seen that before. I do however have a friend that swears that using garter snakes will get you a very large largemouth Bass. not for me though.
