Gumbolowrider

So, took my 10 yr old son to Miller Lane Park last week & quickly realized the perfect trout place it seems to be. Rocky & shallow with finicky fish circling bait & snubbing it all the same. First cast, my son caught a branch & lost a hook & bobber. Next pole he caught a log with same results.
We're "bankers" I guess, looking for lakes, ponds and deeper, slower river, etc. Tow path is good. Round Valley we liked last year but, don't always feel like using the canoe.
Anyone know of somewhere besides the Tow path or Round Valley that offers fairly easy spin/cast fishing? Does anyone fish the reservoir in Martinsville?

There is one in Indiana and one in Virginia that have lakes associated with them.

There is a nice pond in Johnson's park in piscataway. Has a nice deck and railing around it
