Today was our halibut charter and we beach launched out of Anchor Point. If you never seen or experienced a beach launch in Alaska I recommend you YouTube search it, its a trip! We launched at 8:00 am (however it was a 5:00 am wake up, prep, eat and then drive), and we got to the fishing grounds at about 8:35 after launching. The tide was ripping initially, we used 6 lb lead weights and size MONSTER hooks (see pics as I have no idea what the real size was). The bite was hot the whole time, it didn’t take more than a minute or two, and sometimes less, to get hooked up. We caught and released many fish, waiting for larger or smaller fish. The limit is 2 per person with one 28” or under and one over 28”. So if it was under 36” we’d release it to keep something larger, 28” or under we kept it. We caught several large “grey Cod” and they were released, and even a fair sized octopus.
We did limit, we were done fishing at 11:30 am and I got a bonus as the captain had me drive the boat back while he cleaned the fish (I was honored as I don’t let just anybody drive my boat and mines a dingy compared to his).
What a day, what an experience, the weather and sea conditions were perfect.
Tomorrow we’re back at the river fishing for sockeyes!
The guys, Joe C, Jim, Joe H, me, Tommy D, Rick

Two very good days, that is quite a start, how were the waves? The beach launch is quite a trip in itself. Didn't the captain have a boat boy or was he cleaning fish too? What town are you staying in?
