I'm heading to Corpus this weekend and was going try to do some fishing at the beach. I'm running 6/0-10/0 circle hooks for catfish will these hooks be ok or should I run 2/0-6/0 and what rig? High low made out of 50lb leader be ok? All my reels are 5000-6000 series and have 50lbs -60lbs braid on medium rods 2 ugly sticks and 3 madkatz.

Just curious, why would you target saltwater catfish? For the fight? For those critters all you need is a 2/0 J hook and a premade 2 hook and weight leader from the allmart.
salt water catfish that we call gafftop are really good eating...have not fished that area in years but yes a double drop leader worked well
Your trophy catfish equipment may be overkill for beach fishing, 2/0-3/0 hooks or even smaller for most species.
Hi lo rig will be fine. Your rods may be a little short for beach casting if you can find a jetty or pier the shorter rods will probably work ok...Good Luck
back in the 70's I loved surf fishing around corpus and padre... back then I used a 14' rod with a penn 350 level wind and flat braid nylon line... had good bay party boat rates back then too...$6 for 4 hours....
I'm not targeting saltwater catfish I just normally fish for catfish. I'm just asking if the hooks and stuff I have now will work or if I need smaller hooks. I just want to catch saltwater fish don't care what species.
The gear will be fine. If you’re thinking our nuisance bait bandit friends, saltwater catfish, aka, hardheaded, the vast majority are under 12” and 1 lb. Catch as many as you care. Their prettier, slimier cousins, the gafttop sail catfish, might show up in the surf, never know. Get some bigger cut baits or live bait with your heavier rigs and hope for reds, drum, or sharks in the first two guts. The biggest problem lately is beach conditions and driving. Ultra high tides, winds, soft sand, sea grass current + surf & swells can quickly make you change your plans . I’ve fished the surf each week this spring and summer, and that’s always the key. Call padre island National park, mustang island state park or check their websites, and ask about driving conditions.
We did find many gafttop last week on the bayside and a surprise slimer throwing soft plastic. My favorite way to fish the surf is light tackle in the first 2 guts with a variety of tackle and not get the crap beat out of me. The grandsons and I can enjoy catching 12” whiting for the fish fry, and cutting the smaller ones for chunk bait. Buy a sabiki rig, tip each tiny hook with a tiny piece of squid, and catch some live swimmers for big fish bait. Unless you got the money and gear to buy and care for the live bait. Children and grandchildren work well for that task. Have fun, be careful
Gafttop on a plastic mullet pattern. Grandson wasn’t disappointed, but we were surprised while drifting the bay
BTW, Father’s Day weekend, could get crazy surf side. Don’t forget to check the Port Aransas beaches also. They do a better job with driving conditions by running a big bladed CAT. Horace Caldwell pier, and jetties are options there also
Heading to the Packery channel later in July to do some surf fishing. How is the Flounder, trout fishing this summer. Also looking to do some crabbing...thank you
