1st offshore trip this year. Boated 1 decent yellowfin and a some nice golden tilefish. Lost a much bigger yellowfin at the boat. Seas were calm - was a beautiful day on the water šŸ¤™

Rich:

Nice fish, sorry about the one that got away!! Where are you fishing and at what water depth was the Golden Tiles at? I like the dredge unit odd your outrigger pole, a lot smaller than the ones we pull way out east for marlin and large Yellows.

Thanks for the pictures, SOB

JOS - We fished the Baltimore canyon for the tilefish. Between 350-400 feet. We picked up the tuna a little more south at the poor mans canyon.

Thatā€™s real nice and very shallow for the Goldens. How long of a run is it to the Canyons?
We have to fish 900 to 1,200ft to find nice big one but only 3 miles off shore the Yellows do pass through but I target them in the Islands in the Exhumas and the Abacos.
Do you get snowy grouper or mystic groupers up that far north?

We leave out of Longport NJ. It takes us about 2.5 hours to get to the Baltimore and poor mans canyon. Not too much grouper action up here.

Thanks Rich for the reply I know we have caught snowy groupers in Hatteras and nice big tiles too, the big Blue fins come up onto the banks to chase strippers and blue fish.)
Keep ā€˜em hooked have you tried the Nomad Minnows or Madmacs they both can be trolled over 8knts and dig deep.
I use them and their new flying fish off a kite.

Hey JOS - I really like the nomad Minnows and Madmacs. Iā€™m super intrigued about kite fishing them. Iā€™ve heard of kite fishing live bait, but have never done it. Iā€™m interested and will be looking it up tonite for sure.
- Do you have a lot of success with the kite?

Rich:

Yes mostly for Sailfish and Tuna.

The Slipstream can be run from out rigger long it skips real nice but when flown by kite itā€™s so realistic the fish show up pretty quickly.

The wings are interchangeable and not all expensive.

I have so many different Nomad lures everything from fresh water to backwater and then down to large pelagicā€™s and slow pitch.

Hopefully this weekend my son and I will go offshore and do some slow pitch fishing for groupers and snappers we have caught many a black fin tunas and African pompano while dropping the jigs:-)

JOS - So cool. Thanks for the info. I was tuned into kite fishing videos all last nite.

I also do well on smaller madmacs in fresh water.
Good luck this weekend and have a nice Fatherā€™s Day! My little guy and I plan to do some fishing as well!
