How often do you re-line your setups?

Basically how often and in what coverage/structure do you fish and when do you need to re-line because of it?

If I go once a week, I respool every season. If I go more, whenever I feel my line fraying or if it has nicks or abrasions. Fishing near rocks and structure I respool every couple outings to avoid breakoffs. I mostly use Kastking braid. Cheap enough to respool often. I also retie knots and leaders after every couple of fish or so.

How do you feel the braid holds up to rocks and docks? I try to only use braid for open water fishing and top water. I've been suckered into the floro leader community and the tackle industry has another hook in me lol.

I replace the outside 75 yards of mine seasonally so that a 150 yd power pro spool gets me 2 respools.

I’ll keep the backing on for years as it rarely sees use (it’s only seen the water with a few tarpon). I’ll inspect it all seasonally. Works for me.

For mono once a year or at the absolute most once every two years.

Lately (last 10 years) I have been using power pro and I re-spool when I get down to about 75% o the reel capacity where the reduction is due to worn out linem snags, nicks, etc.

Power pro braid right? What pound test do you use?

It depends on what kind of fishing you’re doing. If I’m throwing a frog 55-60lb, punching grass and pads 65-80lb for everything else a 20-30lb braid is probably good! I only use the heavy stuff and then go to florol. That’s for bass fishing

I use mono backing & fill the spool with power pro braid. I use a flurocarbon leader about 6 ft. My main braid generally stays nick & abrasive free as I'll change my leader often. I usually get 2 seasons on the line then I take the line off & literally turn it around. The line tied to my backing is now tied to my leader. I'll get another couple seasons out of the line. I use multiple reels so no 1 reel is constantly being dragged through the water. I use spinning reels for wacky rigs spooled with mono. I'll turn that line around mid year then replace. I consider line to be the most important link in the fishing system chain. Buy good line.

Braid 2 maybe 3 yrs. Everything else once a year unless I need to do it soon. Big fish trip, or just gone through a lot of line due to abrasions.

Truthfully I don't respool until I have a problem. I probably should pay more attention put I'm not fishing professionally. I may have lost a few big fish because of my neglect but I have also landed lots of big fish on old line. So for me I will respool when I feel it is necessary. I believe in keeping it simple and fun.

I use braid on every rod I own with whatever appropriate leader... I typicaly get 3 seasons on a bait caster and 2 on a spinning reel...
