Tips for casting

Whenever I cast, it's seems that I can't get my accuracy down. I tend to use side casts because when I overhead cast the bait either plummets right into the water 10 ft away or it sails in a really high arc. I know that it has to do with my release and the way I load the rod.

On a side cast, I tend to consistently ast a little to the left of where I want to go so I aim a little to the right.

How do I improve my accuracy so I'm casting to where I'm looking? And what are some tips I could use to get a good release of my index finger on the overhead cast? I know that you let the lure load the rod but I just can't seem to get it right. Thanks.

I've found that I'm just not as accurate with a spinning reel as I am with a baitcaster. Spinning reels are definitely easier to use, but in my experience you trade simplicity for accuracy.

I'm using a 6'6" Medium moderate fast spinning rod. 20 lbs braid to a 6lb leader. Bass fishing. I'm using lures suited for the rod. Just I can't cast too accurately. Baitcasters I'm fine with accuracy, but spinning rods I'm afraid my technique will cause physical injury or pain if I do it in the long run. I try to keep my elbows by my side and let the rod do the work but I end up screwing up my cast and reverting back to a sidearm cast.

Set up a few targets in your house or backyard and just start going for it. The overhead style is only good for throwing heavy things far. If you throw a wacky senko like that, you'll lose the senko. It takes practice and dedication to getting better, and maybe even using some unconventional style that others don't. Stick to it and before you know it, you'll be skipping baits and curving baits around trees. Set those targets up and go for it.

When casting with a spinning reel(open face, not a baitcaster) use your index finger to hold the line. Have the line on the ball of your finger. When the rod is at about 2 O'clock release. If you have room in the yard practice there. 2-3 O'clock and straighten your finger. works the same side arm. Ball of your finger not the joint line. that and practice.

Like anything practice. Depending on your target, release earlier, later, a little left and a little right, practice !

That's right same thing I found, about spinning reel and bait casting reel. Each has its place and uses them according to the situation. Good luck and have fun!
