Any report of the fishing at Ashurst Lake would be helpful. Is the lake suited for introducing a 5 year old to shore fishing?
I was fishing there on Tuesday and it was windy but we caught a few rainbows. My advice is if the wind isn't blowing, it will be great. Make sure you fish around the rocks. If it is windy, bets are off. Fished upper lake Mary too and it was good. Pike and crappie mostly.
I used to fish Ashurst a lot. Wonderful fishing for Rainbows. Then someone introduced Pike. Since then, I think the Trout population has been suffering. Oh, by the way, windy is normal for Ashurst. In fact, the north/eastern camp site is named "Windy Point". There are lots of areas to fish from the bank, Windy Point has great rock ledges. Don't leave the bait on the bottom as crawdads are plentiful. (Unless you like to eat crawdads!). Thanks for teaching the young'uns to camp and fish!
ive fished there since i was 6 years old icluding ice fishing in the winter, ive fished other areas of the lake and windy point has always been good;;; i don,t like wind but expect it there. Its been a couple years since ive been up there,at the time the water was so low it wasn,t good.
Thats too bad. Possibly with so much snow and rain the water level will be better. I don't like the pike, so I fish other lakes.
