Went to Cranberry lake in Deception Pass State Park today. Was able to catch a limit of trout, including a 20” brown trout. Was a beautiful day, sunshine and 75 degrees out.

Very nice trout indeed! Well done on both catching fish and being able to enjoy what looked like a spectacular day!

Don,
Cranberry lake is one of the nicest lakes up near Whidbey Island. It it still fly fishing only? What type of flies were you using? There is another lake called Silver lake not far from Cranberry where I used to go fishing at although it was then only spiny ray. When I was last there, there were no houses anywhere around the lake. You could just do dispersed camping on it's banks and with my little canoe it became a great spot for a two day vacation for me. It is a picture in my mind of a diminishing past. Have you ever gone there?

Tim,
Never been to Silver lake.
Cranberry is not fly fishing only, it is open to regular statewide regulations. Pass lake just over the deception pass bridge is fly fishing only.
I was trolling with a spinner type lure called a wicked lure, it is my go to on this lake.

Thanks. I will have to give it a try. I always trolled wooly buggers with or without a smile blade.

Here is what they look like, and no I don’t work for the company, they just work well for me πŸ˜€
I do cut off the 10 lb line that they come with, and rig them with 6lb fluorocarbon.

Nice! Good job! Man, wish I'd known about that lake when I lived in Seattle.

My wife saw this and ordered three! Do you use the suggested set up (other than switching to 6# leader)?
