Caples Lake was also a couple weeks ago. Don't know about now. I didn't go up there this time to check it out.

WOW! At this time of year, especially at lower altitudes, I don't think that anybody is aware of how long the ice takes to melt away on frozen lakes like that! You could almost still go ice fishing if it was safe enough!

Well, that wouldn't be advisable. However, from the top of the snow to the bottom of that ice still might be 3+ feet. Just not safe to walk out on since it's not HARD ice.

Lake Alpine is about 7,300 ft elevation.
Going in July now!
