Well I recently moved in with my girlfriend who it just so happens lives half a block from the beach, and yesterday afternoon I hooked up with my first striped bass in the surf. Now growing up in San Francisco as a kid I worked on a party boat that would target stripers in the bay, and I got some big fish drifting under the golden gates south tower bouncing live anchovies of the bottom. But let me say that hooking up in the surf is a whole new addiction , and I really suggest that any of you out there , close enough to the coast , go get some waders and a 10 ft stick with a bucktail jig on the end and hit the surf.

What party boat did you work on, fryguy69?
I grew up trolling for stripers along with drifting under the south tower. My pb went 27lbs. Those were the days.
Awesome!
My friend, Vince, runs this website and group on Facebook. Great page for reports and tips for sur fishing the California coast!
Enjoy!!!

Just make sure you upgrade the hooks!!!
See the one that got straightened out in the bottom of the picture. New hooks are size 1 with one barb cut off (see
https://www.fishingstage.com/t-61387-1.html for why) and no hook in the middle.
I also really like the sardine pattern Yo-Zuri Hydro LC (long cast). I can get it further out and they come with stout hooks.
I remember doing that at rockaway as well as Pacifica years ago. What a rush! Thanks for reminding me how much fun that is. After moving to Southern California, I miss the stripers!
There are stripers in Southern California.
