Striper Fishing at Los Vaqueros
California Fishing

We went to Del Valle Lake here in Livermore,
CA. today around 7:30am and failed our kayak inspection. There was water in the molded rod holders. UGH! So Christy Wilson and I went north to Los Vaqueros Reservoir (between Brentwood and Livermore) and fished the dock at the marina. I always slay them there. So Christy and I got our limit of 2 each within 3 hours. Quite a few shakers, but kept some better tasting 18" to 20" ones. :-) There were others fishing on the dock and they were struggling to catch fish. We showed them how we were fishing for the stripers as we were leaving. Hopefully they were all able to limit out as well. :-)

Good times!

They're super picky at Del Valle. I failed twice. The first was because my seat padding was damp. The second was because it was raining (even though I had passed the day before and never left the park).

Regarding you "We showed them how" --- mind sharing here?

Thanks!

We've camped there for a few weekends now and they always let us thru the 2nd day we fish, whenever we had rain or there was morning condensation in the air. I'm surprised they failed you that 2nd time. Sorry to hear about that.
As far as my rig for the stripers, I always try to use as little weight as possible. Just a hook and a piece of anchovy. At Los Vaqueros, there was a little breeze so I used the smallest Med Rig Jughead I had and put a piece of anchovy on that. I cast it out and let it drift back to the dock. Once the line is straight down, I let line out until I know it has hit bottom. Then reel it once to get it off the bottom. Set your rod down and wait for the big hit :-)

Hey Steve! Thanks :-) That's one place (ARW) I haven't been yet. I have a LOT of kayak fishing friends who have fished there and they have been limiting out easily!!! Fishing has been so good for EVERYONE fishing the Bay, that I believe they changed the limits from 3 22" halibuts, down to 2 for the day.

We definitely need to get together again to do some fishing!!!
Hope all is well with you and yours :-)

Hey buddy. Yeah, California has/will change the limit from 3 to 2 Halibut this year.
Would be up for an outing for Halibut if you're interested.
I have no idea what kinda gear would be recommended. But I'm sure I could get it covered. πŸ˜„

Hey Steve. Just got my new MinKota riptide powerdrive trolling motor today. Gonna figure out how to mount it on my boat. Getting ready for a trip to the Napa river! Gonna be able to follow u into the sloughs and fish your hot spots!!!

Alright brother. Hope you get it mounted.
Right now there aren't any hot spots on the Napa or the Pet.
However, Ben and I might try again on Thursday. πŸ‘

Too bad about the kayak Ed, but you were able to get fish despite it! Great story and pics!

Thanks, 40Grit :-)
Yeah, I wasn't going to have a failed kayak inspection ruin my fishing day! LOL! So glad Los Vaqueros was right up the road from us.

Heading out tomorrow AM with Nook, last of out going tide. Hope we can get a few. I am very tired of my new best striped rodent friend. I think with warmer and sunnier weather, we should start catching but it is a bit breezy for my tastes. Will hit it pretty hard or till the wind drive us off water.

Good Luck mounting your nice trolling motor. remember more support is better as what I have seen for mounting trolling motors to bow of fiberglass boats. I looked at several YouTube videos. Lots of good info!
