Got out this morning with the BIL and we fished his home lake( Two Mile Run) it's 5 miles from his house . Jim got himself a new bait caster reel and the lessons were flying. He practiced at the house after I set it up for him... While my sister cooked breakfast 🤗. On the water he tried real hard and I was impressed the line did not end up in a nasty bird nest. I taped the spool after 20 yards of line just in case we had to operate and cut some line. He didn't catch anything but the operation was a success. I caught 4 dinks there and when he headed for home( their 26 wedding anniversary) . So I headed for Pymatuning. I started out just fine and got a nice 3.5# er and some other ones. Then it happened I thought at first I had a really long bass as I've never caught one of these slimmy critters before 24"and little over 6&1/2 #s. I kept working a bank line and got a couple more Bass then dang goneit it happened again. Almost identical to the first one. They made the floor so slippery I had to do a quick rinse with the lake water. Ended the day with about 10 bass and two slimmy critters ( they do put up a tussle coming in though. 🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🇺🇲🇺🇲

Flyguy, yeah, first time catching one of these critters not only slimmy but they poop on ya too 🤬. I would agree with the line cutting except some of my frogs are a little pricey and now harder to get. But what a slimmy mess it made on the floor of the yac not to mention there is no " calm" once you get them in the net they thrash all over the place and the water and slime(poop) goes a flying. Good fight though. Thanks for you thoughts on this.🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🇺🇲🇺🇲

DC, thanks for your response, they do put up a vicious fight thought I had a hold of a really nice bass at first ,they sorta just suck in the frog like a bigger Bass not really a big blow up and the fight is way different than a big bass. I'm really breaking up monotony trying to teach my BIL how to use a bait caster whew!! I don't know if I mentioned it but he also has severe OCD............. Yep " OLD CRABBY DUDE" he doesn't hear well at 74yrs. old and doesn't take well to constructive guidance which is most likely the hearing issue. But he's family and that's all that matters.🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🇺🇲🇺🇲

Good teport. Don't think we have those bowfin here, but we sure have snakeheads. Sort of the same thing with real nasty teeth.

Sounds like a great day Andy, teaching, fishing and learning, all in one day. I haven't caught a Bowfin in a long time, but they're definitely fighters. Nice job teaching your BIL the baitcaster, and still getting to the honey hole in the same day. Nice catching and thanks for the pictures.

Andy teaching someone about baitcasters isn't always easy.

After cutting all the line off when I first started I realized one thing.

Don't put good line on till you get the hang of it 🤣🤣

Grizzly I taped the line on the spool a little past where he'd ever be able to cast . That way any bird nest is just in the very top section and can be cut away if needed. So hopefully this will help ?? 🐸🐸🐸🐸🐸🇺🇲🇺🇲
