Hi,
I’m traveling to Myrtle Beach in July. Can anyone suggest places to fish from the beach or jetties?
I will have a couple of 12 year old boys that haven’t fished much, haven’t caught much, and need some good experiences.
I own plenty of tackle that I use at Florida Gulf beaches so that’s not a problem.
It would be nice to catch a red drum or two but the boys would be happy to catch ladyfish, mackerel, or really anything else that would swim by. I really want them to catch fishing fever.
I’ve been on a group fishing boat that went out a bit and I caught a several bonnet head sharks. I’m sure they would like something like that.
Of course I will consult the local bait shops for any fishing news or methods. But if anyone could give some info or hints now I’d appreciate it. That way I could be better prepared.
A simple fish finder rig with a 3 or 4 Oz sinker and a piece of fresh shrimp is all you really need. Finger mullet work well too.

Try Apache pier or 2nd. Ave pier. They sell bait also. I think Apache has a web cam you can check out.

welcome Steve, your best bet for the reds would be the Huntington beach jetties, it is a one mile hike to jetties, so if you have bikes , or a cart of some kind it makes for an easier hall. reds, flounder, use live mullet, black drum, sheepshead ,use barnacles scraped off rocks, or live shrimp Usually you will catch fish. end of rocks for the reds at both ends of the tide. fish in the rocks for best chance at the flounder, sheepshead, and black drum. Carolina rig for all. GOOD LUCK. TAKE LOTS OF PICS.
Just across from the now airport former air base is a state park where you can surf fish. A pier might still be there as well.
You can surf fish if you find a remote beach or after 5:00 pm I think. It’s nice to rent a boat at several places in Murrells Inlet. There are several piers newly rebuilt Surfside beach, and Garden city pier is nice. That time of year it’s hot so take that into consideration. There are party boats and you can arrange a small boat 6 people cost depends on how much time you want.
When you plan in July to be in Myrtlebeach.
I live down here yearly .
Cherry Grove , N. Myrtlebeach
Has really nice pier to fish from .
I have surf fished down the beach near the inlet with really good results .
We have a fishing area that is next to the boat launch where you can fish the Intercoastal waterway from, they stock it with Drum and trout .
Good luck
