Yup, any of the fresh water catfish family. Yellow, brown, black bullheads and young catfish. The worst is the walking catfish which we have a lot of here in Fl. Check it out on google. I know. I got nailed. Never again...

Immerse the affected area in water as hot as is tolerable usually relieves pain from a sting.
Spines should be removed with tweezers.
The wound should be scrubbed and irrigated with fresh water.
The wound should not be taped or sewn together.
Oral antibiotics are usually recommended for catfish stings that become infected. Antibiotics should be taken if infection develops for at least five days after all signs of infection have resolved. Potential drug allergies should be checked prior to starting any antibiotic. A doctor can recommend the appropriate antibiotic. Some antibiotics can cause sensitivity to the sun, so a sunscreen (at least SPF 15) is also recommended for use with such antibiotics.
Pain associated with a catfish sting may be relieved with one to two acetaminophen (Tylenol) every four hours and/or one to two ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) every six to eight hours.

When you get finned by a catfish, turn it over and rub the slime on it's belly on the sting. Works for me.

Turpentine will work. I had a large channel cat barb go all the way through my join on my thumb. The worst part was pulling it back through. Lucky for me when it was over a friend grabbed my hand a said a prayer right away. All I can something worked pain was almost gone. Thank you Herb.

I stepped on a salt water catfish bare footed and it was terrible pain. The wound rotted all the way through my foot. Took weeks to get over.

I'm in Pascagoula Mississippi when I throw a net for bait I used to let it hit my stomach soon as I pulled it out of water. I caught a net full of baby hardheaded and I got stung 26 times in my chest and stomach
