I’m looking to get a saltwater vertical jigging setup, and I can’t find any good resources(all I could find are from 2013 or older😕) on what spinning reel would be best.
I’ll be building the rod. Seeker Hercules GTS60H blank, 5’6” 40-60lb and Fuji K guides. I’m going with a spinning rod because it’d be easier for me, maybe later on I’ll build a conventional rod.
Any suggestions? Targeted species are AJs, Tuna, basically anything that would bite in South Florida waters. I’m looking to spend no more than $250, $300 absolute max
Thanks in advance!

You should look at penn reels. They are built extremely tough and are very affordable. The battle, spinfisher, and slammer are all great saltwater reels.

Had a Battle, it felt a little wonky though, curious to see how the new ones feel. The Spinfisher is a classic but I think the Slammer would be better, I like those Slammers a lot, thanks for the suggestions

Very short rod , most of mine are 7’- 7’6” for spin application !
Conventional reels shorter rod give you a a better fighting tool but spin the longer rods keep fish away from boat and the longer taper protects break offs ! Most as I do use 16” plus butts to rest rod comfortably under my arm and have plenty of length left in taper to move a fish !
If I use that short a rod very little left in length and it’s more punishing to angler ! Spin reels boast more drags power but not nearly up to conventional reels performance for sheer strength !
I have been using a Penn 850SS on a shorter spinning rod on party boats and trolling on my boat and it does one heck of a job , my spinfisher and Battle i use on longer rods in the surf , inlets and jetties
