service and sacrifice....Memorial day sunday

Service and Sacrifice, two values that are taught through out the Bible. Jesus’s life was a living example for us to follow of what both of these words mean.

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,[a] 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,[b] 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant,[c] being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (Phillipians 2:3-8)

Jesus did not come to be served but to serve and sacrifice His very life to set us free from the bondage of sin. His life was an example of how God wants us to live our life. We are not to live for ourselves but to put others first to serve others in their need, and if necessary, sacrifice for the good of others. Jesus said “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” And this is what we remember on Memorial day, the love of individuals who not only were willing to serve the people of our nation, but demonstrated their love of country in their wiliness to offer the ultimate sacrifice of their own life to secure, defend and assure that their families and the rest of the people of our country could live free from the bondage of oppression. For many this is a very personal time, remembering the lives of their child, sibling, parent, or other close relative or friend who is not present at their family gathering due to their sacrifice. But even those who have not suffered this loss should pause for a moment as they gather with family and friends this holiday, and remember those who sacrificed all that we could be free to enjoy our time together with our family and friends. And on this memorial day Sunday remember the sacrifice Jesus offered for us as well. Have a good Sunday and memorial day and give thanks for the freedom we have payed for by the sacrifice of others on our behalf
