The Value of Storytelling!

This is a short analysis of the value of storytelling. All of you are ‘chocked’ full of stories. So, why don’t you write more? Yes, we do have a scattering of stories, usually along with pictures, but I will stick my neck out and tell you I believe they are only a ‘smidgen’ of what exists!

Let me tell you a story about a storyteller. I never met him, but wish I had. This is none other than Junior Samples! He was a fisherman and had the good luck of catching a very large catfish. He wrote s short story about his and the fish’s tussle. It was so amusing his local paper picked it up and even the local radio station did the same.

Junior’s comment was as simple as, “you should have seen the one that got away!” One thing led to his being asked to appear on the Grand Ole Opery, where he was one of the solid stars for several years. Now to show you his dedication to the profession of comedy acting, one year he appeared with about four of his front teeth missing. When asked what happened, Junior replied someone had told him true comedians have a bunch of their teeth missing, or they can’t be funny. So, that was the reason he had his teeth pulled.

No, I don’t suggest you go to that extreme, but you can commit some of your stories to paper. I, too am an amateur storyteller and writer. I can guarantee you will get a lot of unexpected pleasure in such work. You don’t have to do it in prime time, but some nights when you cannot sleep, dedicate that time to recording some of your stories. I can almost guarantee you will find others will also enjoy reading them.

I suppose you didn’t know that many of the current computers will take your spoken word and write your story for you, and even correct the spelling?

So, remember BR549 and get busy. Junior never expected to gain fame and fortune, but he did. You don’t have to pull out any teeth, as Junior did, but just be yourself and tell your stories in your own fashion, you don’t have to copy anyone and don’t have to expect to be another Shakespeare.

If you have a problem, send me a PM and I will do my best to help you. I have found that most experts aren’t, so this is one country boy talking to another country boy! Get’er Done! Just Sayin…RJS
