Some of the SJR is still closed to swimming and boating. See the map below. They'll be patrolling and issuing heavy fines (including child endangerment charges if kids onboard).
I strongly suspect the river and tributaries upstream are also closed (check beforehand). I would call the rangers at Caswell State Park for information about the Stanislaus.

Just curious Doug, why are they closed?
I understand that it's also closed to fishing; same for the lower Kings River.

Closed for safety reasons due to very high water (with lots of submerged hazards) and extremely strong current.
