The weather cooperated for us locally today for both some "wade" fishing as well as getting offshore in a kayak. Subject at hand would be smallmouth bass and a stray lake trout!
Fish sizes between 2 and 5 pounds, mostly on crank baits but a few on grub tail jigs as well. The surface temps of the water have risen to 55 degrees and I suspect that the Spring spawn will come on more aggressively now.
I ran the kayak at a steady troll of 1.4 to 1.6 mph with two 10' 6" noodle rods deployed to increase my chances of getting fish to see something worth biting.
Had a fun chat with a couple really nice guys that drove up from Missouri. They had some good action early after sunrise and then came ashore for a lunch snack when I met them. We exchanged a few fish tales and some regional advice on where to ply the waters next.
Have a terrific Memorial Day weekend everybody!
My local son in law having fun fishing close to shore from his waders.
Gotta love some of the colorations and mottling on these smallmouth bass!
A small lake trout that I kept for lunch this afternoon....
Thought I had hooked bottom for a while on this gal! She never broke the surface until I had all my line in. Glad it was a bass and not a foul hooked sucker!
Wow nice fish. What a trip that must have been.

Thank you Ridleyblake! Good fun for sure! The local bass club held a tourney on a different lake, so most of the waters where we fished were wide open to us. My son in law was on a different schedule, and fished in a completely different place a few miles from where I was.

Thank you 40Grit! Although the air temp was only 36 degrees when I started, the direct sun made things comfortable. I left the house barefoot in shorts and for a while I froze my butt off!

Thank you NJ! Wow...our water temps won't be that high until next Fall! I continue to enjoy your posts, and I hope that your hand heals quick from that rascal of a bluefish!

Awesome catching Yaker! I wish all of our lakes had fat Smallies like that. Beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing.

Thank you Fredfish! The bass ares till in pre-spawn mode, so the females are especially bulging right now with eggs. The rod I was using resembles a giant ultra light rig, so the fight was extra fun.
Nice fish small mouth is my favorite fish to catch
