Hello fine people. My name is John and I am moving from Marietta Georgia to Delaware Ohio. I bought a house not far from Delaware lake. I really like fishing and have fished all over the country. I don’t know anything about fishing in this area, so I hope the good folks in this forum can help me get up to speed on where and how to fish here. Thank you!
Welcome Pastor John, There are many outstanding lakes to fish near Delaware. Delaware reservoir is really good for Crappies; Alum Creek reservoir is an outstanding lake for many species, primarily musky, saugeye, bass, and crappie. If you’re looking for catfish, Hoover reservoir has an outstanding population of both blue cats and channel cats. You have the Olentangy and Scioto rivers to fish as well. On the Scioto River you also have O’Shaughnessy and Griggs reservoirs which are ok for bass and host weekly tournaments. My personal favorite of these is Alum Creek, Primarily the north end of the reservoir, where you don’t have as much boat and water/jet skiing traffic. Hope this helps. Good luck and tight lines.
Thank you Fishin Rick! That is very helpful. I can’t wait to give those recommendations a try. Construction on my house should be finished in July. Then I will move and start fishin in Ohio!

I went fishing with friends and caught some nice stripers. We had great weather and good fishing in TN.
Nice fish Pastor John, and thanks for posting the pictures. What lake were you fishing?
Welcome pastor. Hope you can get past the ad pics.
Don’t know much but what I have heard. The lake I would like to fish the most is Hoover. Take half a lifetime to learn it since it is huge.
But every time I ask someone who fishes the lake if they have heard of ten pound bass being caught there, they say yes.
A 10 pounder in Ohio? Now that’s exciting because I don’t know of anyone who has caught a double digit bass in Ohio.
And blue cats? Say now. Didn’t know they were in Hoover but that makes it all the better.
Buy a big net!
Thanks for the info Fishdadd.? A 10 pound largemouth sounds exciting! I might need a flat bottom boat with a 10hp motor and good electronics to fish local waters. I have a lot on Norris lake in TN I plan to build a home there in 7 years or so.
Hey Pastor John, if you’re looking for bass, another good lake that would be a short drive from Delaware would be Knox Lake. It is just outside Fredericktown. ODNR ranks it as one of the top bass lakes in Ohio.
Fishin_Rick, thanks for the info! I will fish for whatever will bite, bass, walleye, Striper, crappy, bluegill and anything else. I’ll check out Knox Lake.
Knox lake has a lot of shore access if you don’t have a boat. Has a decent population of panfish as well as really good bass.
