I am 79 and had to retire after becoming disabled back in 2001. My last fishing trip was tp Lake Casitas where I "almost" landed a 20lb_+ Largemouth Bass. Unfortunately I had tied the fishing not which I had not done in 20+ years. It was 3 inches from being pulled in and the line broke. My son and a friend both witnessed it. On the same day, I caught my largest largemouth bass of my fishing career; an 8 1/2 pounder. I still get nauseated when I think of the lost lunker.

I feel for you brother as I am rapidly approaching my 79th birthday, and your story reminded me of mine. I fought a 1,000 pound marlin for 2.5 hours years ago only to have it break off within 50 yds of the boat. A 20lbs bass is extremely rare and had to be quite a fight. By the way my largest LMB is just over 8 1/2 pounds.
I feel with you OldBassGuy. Thta fish that you lost put mine to shame. But you arer correct that a 20 Bass is rare, except at Lake Casitas. As far as the fight, it was mor like a tug of war. It simply put my pole in half. If only that I had my buddy tie the hook. Oh well! Woulda, shoulda, coulda does nolt cut it in any sport. God bless you OldBassGuy.. BROTHERCHUCKLES79
Boy do you have a BIGGER story than mine. I don't know about you but when my line broke and I saw that fish swim away, my heart went out my mouth. I could not even let out an expletive. I just sat there while my son and our guide were just speechless. For the remainder of the day, all I could think about was that fish that got away, even though I continued to catch another nice sized Bass. I sure would like to get out there again, but it is a real trial for me to get out there on a boat with my balance issues. May God bless you with many more days on the water. Charles
