Just excited and wanted to share. Caught a smallmouth at Elkhorn Creek in Kentucky. First time ever casting a fly rod. Still a lot to learn, but catching the fish species I was targeting on the first outing cemented the addiction. Thanks to Quest Outdoors in Louisville for getting me set up.

Congratulations! It’s a fun but challenging hobby.

I remember the last time I thought about something other than fly fishing... it was a little over 4 years ago.
Congrats!

This is how it starts. Soon you will be literally dreaming of catching river smallies. Then you'll start scheming about them. You'll order Clousers, crawfish patterns, Dahlberg divers, poppers and sliders by the dozen. Then, maybe you'll get a vise and start being a regular on some of the better flytying sites. You'll order Bob Clouser's book Fly Fishing for Smallmouth and Karczynski and Landwehr's Smallmouth - Modern Fly Fishing Methods, Tactics and Techniques. Then, maybe one day you will spend every lunch break searching for retirement property on a suitable smallmouth river . . . After seeing how much those go for, you will fantasize about living in a van down by the river . . .
It's not too late. You can still save yourself from this addiction.

Fishing and catching is an addiction to the point the wife wants to move from our NC home on the water and my only requirement is to be near the water wherever we end up. Hose, apt., condo, or a tent doesn't matter, just within a few miles of the water.
