Crappie At Lake Perry, KS
Kansas Fishing
Anyone catching crappie on jigs from the bank yet at Lake Perry, KS?
Never fished there but Milford lake we are catching good numbers from shore.
Milford is a ways away, but thanks!
Fishing on Lake Perry on Saturday May 20th,with son and daughter,The fish were biting close to the bank, however they were small, later in the day, caught keeper's on brush piles.Left lake at 2:00 pm with a total of 30 Crappies.
Thanks for the info! I’m not sure why Perry is so far behind the other lakes but I think we are getting close!
I seen a couple fishing from the marina and never seen them catch anything. I was at melvern last week and fished from shore and caught a nice mess of crappie. I was using live minnows with a bobber and small split shot below the bobber. Worked out great when they decided to hit.
Awesome! Thanks for the update! I’ve been doing well in farm ponds but I live fairly close to Perry. Sure would be nice to have a good crappie spawn there!
If you know of any ponds that need some fish cleaned out let me know I’d love to help get rid of them. I was asking around if anyone knows private ponds I could fish. I live in Topeka. I love to take my dogs out to the lake and let them run but people seem to be everywhere and some complain and I hate leashing them.
I can’t really hook you up with the ponds but I have caught plenty of nice fish out of the State Lake North of Topeka and it doesn’t get fished very hard. There are also some walk-in ponds that are just north of Valley Falls. Both of those places would be good for hanging out with the dog as well.
Could you give me more details of the location of the walk-in ponds.
The walk in ponds are just past Valley Falls to the north. They are on the east side of K4 hwy. I usually park on the side of the highway and cross the fence to walk in. If you take the first right, you will see them better and can walk down from there as well. Here is a picture from maps:
That’s very kind of you. I’ll definitely check it out.
I was at Lake Perry yesterday and fished in two different locations. Didn't catch anything and didn't see anybody else catch anything. I stopped at the outlet, and they are letting out around 500 cubic feet per second.
Observed 5 fisherman fishing and not catching anything.
Yeah the fishing can definitely be hit or miss especially when we’re getting rain. The outlets definitely have some big fish and a great variety if you can be there at the right time.
When they are letting a lot of water out, I like to jig a four inch rubber worm with some sort of swim bait above it (1-1 1/2 feet) using heavy line and heavy leadheads. You can catch some nice flatheads and blues do that. I started doing this after watching so many people hook them on ultralights fishing for crappie. I figured why not! Must jig down to the rocks and get some snags because they sit on the rocks.
