New fisherman here! I need some help.
Hi! I'm relatively new to ACTUALLY fishing, been fishing before but only for bluegill/catfish. I don't know how to pick spots to fish and I wanna start fishing for bass. How do you know where to throw your bait and what to throw/when?

TacticalBassin on YouTube is worth a skim.

I like using the app fishbrain and find new spots and what species are caught there. If you get premium you can see when is the best time of the day to fish and what lures are good for the fish there. You should check it out. I have had it since I was just staring and it helps.

I tried using that app but it took me places where I couldn't even reach the water. It might help but I need to find places on my own for the most part.

Fishbrain is alright but I wouldn’t rely on it. Like the other guy said look up tactical bassin on YouTube he gives solid advice

Don't rely on technology to fish. It takes away from the experience.
Best advice ever. Look for something different in the environment. A drop off, a point, a log, a weed bed, etc... Fish the edges of these areas.
Don't buy into the lure game. Lures attract people more then fish. Here's a list of baits that catch consistently:
- Inline spinner
- White Bucktail
- Original Rapala
- Zara Spook
- Senko worm- Texas Rigged

Throw anywhere and everywhere. You learn from experience, by throwing everywhere. Don't expect to "pick a spot" if you want to get into bass fishing. If you walk up to any given shoreline, you are going to want to work up and down that shoreline as far as you can go in either direction, constantly on the move to find aggressive fish

OK fish bite because they are hungry or mad. If they are not hungry, then live baits don't work good. So then you have to make them mad. It is like using a Rattle trap and working a 180 degree area. Casting it every 30 degrees and bring it in as fast as you can with the rod down. 3 times doing it and then move on. Your invading their space and trying to make them mad, so they hit it. Nothing happening? Move to the next place. You can do that with spinners, or other lures also.
Bait shop or a Guide service to take you out. Bait shops want your repeat business. A guide wants referrals and your repeat business.

Without knowing your conditions there are a few norms where ever you fish for bass. They don't like bright light. They will search out shade, low hanging tree limbs, vegetation submerged grasses, floating hydrilla, maiden cane, lily pads, and hyacinth, are all good places to start, you'll need to fish them differently. They also like to be close to breaks into deeper water. Logs and snags are always good places to fish. If you want to fish with Live fish for bait Floats are good for all but the hyacinth, I have found it best to hook shiners behind their anal fin. Let them free spool under the weeds keeping the line just tight enough to feel your shiner.

knowing exactly where to fish is a question few can answer
guides get together and share information and they pretty well know what that ol lunker is doin and where he's hiding
new depth finders can find fish in deeper water
(If you know how to use one)
I personally am a shallow water bass fisherman
fish mainly with plastic worms and jerk baits
I attach a split shot about 6 to 8 inches above my hook cast at cover(Bushes, trees, rocks anywhere the bass may be waiting to attack his next meal
Try Plastic worms and jerk baits until you find one that the fish want to eat
the slower you work your bait, generally the better success you will have
hope this helps you
if you have any questions,I will try to answer them
You can look for abstructions like a stump, lilly pads,or logs grassy areas for example. Early mornings or from twilight to dark.

Hey y'all, I'm new to this site also. It sounds like you are fishin from shore, no boat, right? If so, look for points of land. Fish both sides of point and straight out as far as you can cast. Use different types of lures such as square billed crank baits as well as deeper diving ones. Senko type baits, drop shot rigs ned rigs, and other plastic baits should be good things to try as well. Lots of other lures work equally as well like top water baits, spinner baits, jerk baits and so on. If there is any structure around like stumps, trees, rocks weed lines or patches throw as close to them as you can. Swim baits on a jig head work really well to. Good luck and tight lines. Steve
