I do a lot of impromptu fishing trips and would love the convenience of a telescopic rod but I'm not sure which one would be worth the investment. Anyone have any advice?

I have one of the 7' souyalang rods for that same reason. Paired with a 1000 size spinner.
I have pulled in a 5# bass on it (currently that rods largest catch.)
It was like $20 on Amazon.

Ah cool do you use it pretty regularly?

I've taken it out a few times a month. Fly with it occasionally, but it lives in my car 99% of the time.
It has seen the water somewhere between 75-100 times ... seems to hold up well for a cheap rod.
I dont ask it to do to much of it, just 1/10oz - 1/4oz jigs with 8# test.

Oh for sure, I don't have pie in the sky expectations for it but I mostly fish small playas anyway

I own 4 telescoping rods: one Sougayilang, 2 Troutboy, and one KastKing. They all occupy varying positions on the spectrum between crap and literal garbage.
My advice: Get a St Croix 4 piece Triumph instead.

Honestly I would try stay away of telescopic rods unless they have full guides and are made of decent quality. 2 different buddy with affordable extendable rod. Buddys super cheap ali express rod snapped around 3rd guide from the back. Another buddy broke the tip, and the guides are loose and needed re gluing. One you may be interested is the abu garcia troutin marquis extendable model or something but is a jdm model. To be honest a good quality 3 piece or 4 piece rod is what you should be looking for. That is what they do for fly rods, and pack rods these days.
If you want good quality extendable rods you would have to look at jdm rods. Daiwa liberty club short spec surf rod is a nice rod to have at a good price domestically.

None. Get a good 4 or 5 piece travel rod. A good telescopic rod does not exist

Agree. Get a good 4-5 piece pack/travel rod.
Get s two piece 4'6" rod. You will love it
2’3” might not be small enough. I have a 5’ - 5 pc. Ultralight rod that is sweet.
