Hey'a everyone! I've finally got some money to buy a spinning rod and i've found a rod what looks like it'll be right for my budget but it say's that it's a universal rod and i dunno what it means.

Probably that it will take light to heavy line and can cast lightish to heavy line. Basically it's not set up specifically for anything. It's not a beach rod or a boat rod or an estuary/river rod. It's a rod somewhere in the middle. Fishing isn't about the rid you use. It's more about bait presentation and making your bait or spinner/jig look as natural as possible than what rod you use. Hope this helps a little . I could be totally wrong but that's what it says to me.

Well, of course you're mostly right, but for instance fishing on pike with an ultralight trout rod isn't going to go well.

Jack of all trades, master of none. It's a good idea to go remotely all round, but do expect to want a more specialized rod in the near future.

If you include some of the description for the rod, we can interpret it.

What is the length, weight, and action of the rod?

Recommended by the maker for everything; not good for much.
