Oregon City area. I received this message today it appears to have been hooked and landed or boated yesterday. What a nice fish. Fishing in Oregon can be very productive if one applies themself. This young man had one of his best days ever. It’s gotta be 50-60Lbs.

Much like the King Chinook Salmon that run in Alaska. This was caught in Oregon City Oregon. Lucky Day is all I gotta say. Congratulations to this fine young fisherman.

That's how big they were back in the 60's and 70's. I talked to fisherman who said that the average used to be 40 lbs.

I used to target Sturgeon on 6th Street pier in Astoria. An older gentleman came to chat fishing with me for a few minutes. He told me similar information. He stated that there was so much Salmon in the Columbia River ( before any of the Dams were installed that you could practically walk across them between boats. Fishing took very little time back then to fill the boat. I’m sure it had to be a lot easier to fill the freezers way back in those days. I just thank my lucky stars and know I am a very blessed man to still this awesome life above ground and able to find and meet really great people here on Fishingstage to fish and enjoy talking about fishing and the love of fishing.

Actually I'm gonna say it's bigger than 65lbs. I caught a 65 pounder at the Nimbus basin in about 1988, and it didn't look that big as judged by a picture I took of me holding it and my four year old daughter standing beside it. I'm 6'2" and this guy may be smaller. That is a big frigging fish... I weighed my fish on a dead accurate print shop scale and Fran and Eddies tackle shop in Rancho Cordova accepted the weight to enter in their yearly biggest fish contest, which I won.

And get this, I caught it on 8lb test... I figure it improved the size of the fish dramatically over my friend who was using 12lb. I rarely caught one under 25lbs. he rarely caught one over 20lbs and 30 to 35 was the size I most commonly caught.

That photo has been around for a while. Pretty sure it is an Alaska fish and pic is at least a year or 2 old. That was not in Oregon City recently. He was posting as kind of a joke.

Although this pic looks like the Willamette. This Chinook is way bigger than any June hog I've heard of in the Columbia for years! Clearly two to three times larger than any Spring Chinook that has ever been caught! 😶

OK. I say Jimmy crack corn then. You can guess how I feel about it. If it's a joke I guess you should applaud and LAUGH. I was simply sharing what is going on here locally. Other locals are hooking big Spring Chinook but I really just wanted to share what a friend sent. Where do you fish? Do you ever post big PNW fish? What is your favorite target species or fish TYPE?
