Gonna be down there in a few weeks. Never fished Florida. Don't know what to expect or what gear to bring.
Water temperature is getting better and the Redfish and Speckled Trout are feeding closer to shore. I caught a 19 inch Redfish last week. Check out Salt Strong.com they have a lot of inshore fishing tips and stuff.
Were you using lures or bait, beach, pier or inshore?
Thanks!
Welcome fish friend, if surf fishing bring light to medium for short cast to catch any smaller baits 10-20' in front of you also to throw jigs/lures. A couple of surfcasting rods 8' to 12' for some casting distance/larger bait (tip: always use circle hooks)
Thanks. I’ve got some longer rods for surf fishing. Used to surf fish the Pacific Ocean. Just haven’t for some year and dont know the gulf at all. Just lost my rod holder along some Kansas highway the other day too. I was just looking up the regs and size limits, lots of regs. Thanks for the tips. What’s the deal with circle hooks?
I was using the Slam Shady soft plastic paddel tail lure with some Dr. Juice scent from Salt Strong. It is white in color and is 3.5 inches in length. Works great, the Redfish was very close to the shoreline, about 2 foot off the bank, maybe 1 foot of water. Early morning about 7am, on a rising tide.
Thank you. In the bay? What are some good spots to start out. Gonna be there a week starting tonight. Still in Bama.
I went out this morning, but no luck. Nice day on the water with the kayak.
I was using the Slam Shady paddle tail, pink jerk shad, and power prawn jr. all from Salt Strong. I have been catching more Speckled Trout lately. I did catch a Flounder and a 23.5 inch Redfish a couple of weeks ago.
