Heidecke Crappie
Illinois Fishing

Had an opportunity to join some of my club members on a trip to Heidecke Lake for some crappie fishing. Left the dock about 09:30 and started out in the boat launch area pitchin' jigs into the rocks and nuthin'. Picked up and headed out to open water and started watchin' the graph for a good spot with some fish. Found it and proceeded to boat over 80 crappie, while keeping 60. We were throwing back 7 & 8inch fish. Water temp was in the low 50's. We used 6'6" crappie rods and small reels loaded with 8lb test mono, a number 6 size hook, a small foam float. We were fishing in 14-15FOW and our floats were set at about 11ft. My regular fishin' partner picked up a nice 26inch, 7lb walleye, which was photographed and then released to go make some more little babies. We like to think that we are somewhat of a conservation group, that is returning large fish to go and procreate so we can continue to come back to these waters.

Good outing! Those are some memorable outings when you get into those crappie nest.

Nice walleye too!
