The East Verde is being stocked each week with both rainbows and Gila! Beautiful place to fish. I talked to the Arizona department of fishing wildlife person who was on site and he said the Gila is for both catch and release and catch and eat.

Many years ago, I used to fish that area and if you can find a spot called Barber Shop Canyon, you'll find plenty of Gila trout. They won't be any longer than 6 in, but it's really a place where nature forgot. Should be on the old 1983 USGS maps. Good luck, and watch out for rattlesnakes!
